MLK Day

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. May we never forget this incredible man's message and forever perpetuate the love he shared with the world.
An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.
History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.
Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'
I just love these images of MLK and his family.

Self-compassion vs. self-critic

What a beautiful idea for the New Year:
"...accepting yourself in where you are, and forgiving yourself in setbacks will make you more likely to succeed. Self-compassion will increase a sense of personal responsibility without triggering the self blame that are common when you take a self-critical approach to change."

Epic love

Read this. Such a good read.
"He walked me to my car, and we kissed in the parking garage, under orblike yellow lights. It was a still kiss, a postcard kiss, a Disney princess kiss, the kind of kiss that makes blue cartoon birds chirp and swirl in the sky, their beaks holding garlands."

Seeing books

I love the built in bookcases in our new house. They frame one of the fireplaces and are charming, sweet and just plain cool. The other night I was unpacking my books thinking to myself, "man, it's been so many years since I've actually been able to see all of my books." I came across books that I hadn't seen in ages and some I'd completely forgotten I even owned. Just then I came across this book that was a gift from my mom a long time ago...

...and I flipped through the pages and landed on this one. My eyes fell on the 4th line of text: "knowing where all your books are."

It was one of those moments when you get the warm and fuzzies and a giant smile spreads across your face. That is certainly something to be happy about.

Birthday Love

How great is this card?  My dear friend Michele gave it to me for my birthday and I simply love it.  I also love her.  She managed to surprise me for my birthday last week with a trip to celebrate with me right here in C-U!  I really had no idea that she was coming and was shocked and thrilled to see her sitting at the table for my family dinner.  We had a great weekend!
My sweet sweet husband threw a surprise party for me with friends and family and we celebrated into the wee hours.  It was fabulous!  So fabulous that I didn't manage to take a single photo.  Hopefully others did so I can get a peak at the fun we had.  Between my lovely husband, dear friends and super duper family, I'm one lucky gal.

Must Keep Running

I am in the second week of training for a half marathon race and my body is feeling it.  It usually takes a couple of weeks to get into a groove, but today my legs are especially sore.  So, I decided to seek out some inspirational quotes to get me energized and keep myself motivated.  Here are a few of my faves:

Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts. - Steve Prefontaine

This is not about instant gratification. You have to work hard for it, sweat for it, give up sleeping in on Sunday mornings. - Lauren Fessenden

The truth is that running hurts. - Unknown

Tina Fey, You're So Cool

Love this quote from Tina Fey.  She's seriously the coolest.

“What bothers me the most is when people say that Hillary [Clinton] is a bitch. Let me say something about that—yeah, she is! And so am I, and so is this one [points to Amy Poehler]. Bitches get stuff done…. Bitch is the new black!”—From Saturday Night Live

Super excited to read her new book.
