Off and running

A little cuteness for your weekend...
It's been quite a busy week. I've been up to my eyeballs in web training classes all week long. I've learned a ton, but am definitely ready to take a break from staring at a computer screen.

This is a big weekend. I am running the Illinois Marathon with my "daddy daughter" relay team. Despite having done absolutely no training whatsoever, I'm pretty pumped for the race. Me, Craig, Tom, and Emily are going to tear it up. :) Then the fun part... celebrating! Hopefully the rain holds off for the race - mainly for Bob's sake while running the full marathon, but also for our friends' cookout afterward. And, to top off the weekend, Sunday I'll be doing my first maternity shoot. Yay!

I hope you have a swell weekend, too!

p.s. Like my new header?

p.p.s. In case you haven't seen them yet, check out my beautiful nieces in our recent photo shoot. Aren't they gorgeous?

I need this

Wow, the IKEA Uppleva. I really want one of these. I am always obsessing over cords that are poking out/in the way/really unattractive. This thing was made for me.

And, I love that they included the remote flub in there.

Weekend art and more

How cute are these kids? Last night we had a refreshingly restful night with these tuckered out pups. Whew!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Tonight Bob and I are meeting up with our lovely friends Seth and Justine for a little Boneyard Festival art and a delicious meal. For the second year in a row I have a piece on display for the CUDO ABCU typography exhibit taking place this year at indi go artist co-op in downtown Champaign. This year I've created a photographic capital 'K'. (You might remember my 'L' from last year.) It will be a great night!

And, to get your weekend started, check out this funny video of our sweet Kia who is a bit of a snorer. Turn up the volume for the full effect.

p.s. please consider donating to CCHS.

Welcome home, Kia

Today our family is growing. The adorable, sweet, and lovable Kia is joining the Kacich family. This afternoon Bob and I will be headed to the Champaign County Humane Society to pick her up and bring her to her new home - and to meet her brother Winston (who is very excited for her arrival).

Since we lost our sweet Taz, we knew that we would eventually want to adopt another puppy to join our family. After our Sunday afternoon dog park excursion, Bob, Winston, and I decided to stop by the CCHS to take a peek at the dogs. From the moment we saw Kia she just melted our hearts. She gladly accepted treats with sweet little kisses and the loviest little face. We took her outside to get to know her and we were smitten. She impressed us with her ability to fetch, sit, and come; her sweet nature charmed us; and, just look at those ears!

As fate would have it, the behavior specialist was on duty and Winston was patiently waiting in the car. So, we were able to introduce Kia to Winston right then and there. They hit it off wonderfully. Although a little tired from his dog park high jinks, Winston managed to keep pace with Kia and they ran circles around the yard and just played and played. It was decided. Kia was coming home.

Inside, we filled out the adoption papers and the staff at the CCHS were so great. They all remembered Taz and were so supportive of us bringing Kia home. We're really grateful to them.

I'm so excited for Kia to come home today. What a great day!

p.s. We're participating in the Mutt Strut to raise money for the Champaign County Humane Society. Please considering donating to our team!

Friday the 13th

Do you realize that this year there are exactly three occurrences of Friday the 13th thirteen weeks apart? Today is the second. Pretty weird, huh?

Are you superstitious about this day, or anything else? These are some pretty wacky fears surrounding this day. In fact, it seems to be the most widely held superstition across the country. The phobia of Friday the 13th even has its own name. I do find it interesting that you're hard pressed to find many buildings with a thirteenth floor. Really, I don't know that I've even been in an elevator that's twelfth floor button isn't followed by the button for the fourteenth floor.

In case you are a little fearful of bad luck today, check out Yahoo's tips for avoiding Friday the 13th bad luck. :)

Dingle beach

Just a quick photo of waves crashing on a beach on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. Because I really do hope to get to uploading all of my Ireland photos and sharing them with you one day... :)

And another...

Angel Lush with pineapple

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! This morning I'm recovering from eating two Easter dinners. That's  a nice thing about having both mine and Bob's families living in the same town - double the celebration for every holiday. :)

I made this Angel Lush with pineapple cake that was delicious. It was so airy and creamy and light. A perfect spring treat and super easy to make. Here's the recipe.

Mustache Night

Last night Bob and I joined our friends Ben and Stella to see Nick Offerman (a.k.a. Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec) perform. We're big fans of Parks & Rec and Ron's character. His performance was great and had me in stitches through much of his "American Ham" routine.

Before the show we had dinner and discovered that the restaurant celebrates "Mustache Night" each Thursday. Check out our 'staches. These glasses were great - and, we got to keep them! :)

Have a happy weekend!
