Indy weekend

This weekend my honey whisked me away for a birthday (and anniversary) weekend in Indianapolis. We stayed at a charming little B&B (recommended by some friends) in the Mass Ave. arts district just north of downtown. We ate, we drank, we walked and shopped and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Check out the fun weekend we had...

The Nestle Inn Bed & Breakfast was cozy as could be. The innkeepers, Leesa and Bob, sweetly greeted us with a bottle of champagne and treats upon our arrival. The beautiful old house was the perfect resting spot, and the breakfasts were to die for.

On Friday night we enjoyed an outstanding meal at Mesh. This cheese plate was to die for - Talleggio, Manchego, and Piper's Pyramid with homemade pear chutney and savory cornichons. (Bob always laughs at how excited I get about cheese. I looove cheese.)
And, my scallops were like little (actually, giant) pats of butter that melted in my mouth. They were paired perfectly with a creamy corn risotto and Parmesan crisps. Mmmm....

On Saturday, we spent the day meandering around the Mass Ave. district and into downtown.

This secret garden was such a lovely site hidden in the city. It would be a perfect wedding spot.

An old coke bottling plant. Isn't that a cool building?

There were these great murals around the Mass Ave. district. I loved this one.

Tiny paw prints captured in the cement.

We had fun with the puppets in the awesome Mass Ave. Toys shop. When I tried to make mine talk, my face must have contorted and made some pretty funny faces because Bob kept laughing.

We visited the Sun King Brewery where they had an awesome selection of micro-brews for tasting. We opted out of the tour (since we could see most of the brewery from where we stood) and just went straight for the beer. :) Bob liked the Osiris Pale Ale the best and we brought some of it home for later indulgences.

We lunched at Bazbeaux Pizza where we dined al fresco on a beautiful afternoon. The caprese salad (a summer favorite of Bob's and mine) and the pizza alla quattro formaggio were delicious.

And, before we headed out of town we took a lovely walk through White River State Park. There's a beautiful promenade that runs alongside the river and the back of the Indianapolis Zoo. Shaded by these gorgeous arching trees, we could hear animal sounds all along the path. :) It was a great way to end our stay.

Bob and I had a wonderful weekend. Exploring with him is one of my very favorite things to do. It was the perfect celebration of all of our July milestones.
